Gajah

Translating to "elephant", this majestic beast is an inspiring subject for the artist. A firm believer of "let(ting) wildlife be wild", the artist enjoys watching elephants in their natural habitat - at work and at play.

Not ignoring the harsh realities of abuse and captivity that these animals continue to face on an everyday scale, Alpana also captures the uglier stories. In some of her work, you'll notice elephants in a historical fort setting. This references the use of these gentle giants for tourism in India - something that must be stopped.
